Applications

Orthopedic Implant Coating

CAM Bioceramics’ powders are used extensively in the orthopedic industry for implant coatings. HA coatings significantly improve bonding with bone. Our extensive coating experience has enabled us to develop outstanding superflow coating powder. We are also able to coat the most challenging implants in-house.

Bone Graft Substitutes

Our specialty powders, granules and blocks are used for bone augmentation. These bone substitutes are used for orthopedic applications such as spinal fusions, or as filler for gaps and voids in the treatment of fractures and major bone defects.

Resorbable fixation

Calcium phosphates are used in bioresorbable fixations such as interference screws and suture anchors. Hydroxyapatite and β-TCP are used as bioresorbable osteoconductive material, generally together with PLLA or PLGA. The calcium phosphates slowly resorb, while stimulating bone growth.

Dental

Our powders, granules and blocks are used extensively in the dental industry as dental bone grafts, or applied as implant coatings. Our synthetic bone grafts are used for a range of dental procedures including sinus lift, ridge augmentation, socket preservation, periodontal defect regeneration and implant bone regeneration. We are able to develop powders, granules, cements or putties according to your specific dentistry requirements. Hydroxyapatite can also be used on dental implants as implant coating, or as blasting powder to create surface roughness.

Aesthetics

Hydroxyapatite is used as an injectable dermal filler to help fill in facial wrinkles, creating a smoother appearance. Hydroxyapatite particles are suspended in a gel forming a biodegradable cosmetic filler. Although this filler degrades over time, it does last for a relatively long period. Furthermore, hydroxyapatite stimulates production of the body’s own collagen at the injection site making it an efficient soft tissue filler.

Excipient

Calcium phosphates can incorporate active ingredients either physically or chemically, so that the molecule retains contact until it reaches the target site. Calcium phosphates can thus be used for a controlled delivery of growth factors, cells and drugs. Active ingredients that can be carried by calcium phosphates include: BMP, DNA, cells and drugs. As a resorbable material, calcium phosphates are also used for controlled drug release, gradually degrading over time. Hydroxyapatite and β-TCP are excellent materials for targeted and controlled drug delivery.
